On-Site vs. Off-Site Document Shredding
First of all, if you are destroying documents then you are following the law.
Off-Site Process
Truck comes and collects documents to be destroyed from your business. Truck then proceeds to next stop to pick up more documents from another business. After truck is full or route is complete truck goes to shredding wharehouse where your documents and all the others are unloaded and prepared for shredding. Is the shredding done the same day? Well, I'm sure it's different each time. Hopefully, the documents are shredded at some point and not just baled and sold to the paper mill before shredding.
The main argument is how many people handle your documents and how much time passes before they are actually shredded? How many points of human error can occur in this process? Are the documents kept secure at all times? These are many questions to ask if you are using an Off-Site Shredder.
On-Site Process
Truck comes and collects documents to be destroyed from your business. Documents are kept locked and secure until the actual shredding. You have the option to witness the actual shredding. Then the technician shreds all documents with mobile document shredding truck, issues Certificate of Destruction and invoice then leaves the business with you knowing that everything was completely destroyed.
All paper is recycled with either process.
